Atlantis is proud to inaugurate its new space with a solo exhibition by the Mexico City-based, Mexican artist Martin Soto Climent.
For his exhibition at Alantis, Soto Climent presents an extensive selection of new work, which is comprised of photographs, objects, sculptural installations and a video. Known for his irreverent reverence and sensual exploration of materials, such as women’s clothing, domestic furnishings and vintage photography, among other things, Soto Climent continues to explore these formal preoccupations here, as well as others, but on a more intimate and personal level and scale. Drawing on events from the past year of his life, this is Soto Climent’s most autobiographical show yet. On a conceptual level, themes and blurred dichotomies that have always been present in his work come more directly into the foreground in this exhibition. These include the natural vs the unnatural, the synthetic vs the organic, death and eroticism, lightness and darkness, as well as the production of images. Characterized by the fleetingness of the photographic moment, all of the work in the show is marked by a deliberate and manifest fragility. The exhibition seeks to speak to and embody the impermanence of the every day with a plasticity that is as palpable as it is poetic.

Atlantis est heureux d’inaugurer son nouvel espace avec une exposition personnelle de l’artiste mexicain Martin Soto Climent.
Pour cette exposition, Soto Climent présente un ensemble important d’œuvres spécifiquement réalisées pour l’exposition, incluant des photographies, des objets, des installations sculpturales, et une vidéo. Connu pour sa révérence irrévérencieuse et son exploration tactile des matériaux, qu’il s’agisse de vêtements de femme, mobilier domestique ou photographie vintage – parmi d’autres -, Soto Climent poursuit son exploration formelle en le faisant glisser sur un niveau plus intime et personnel. Puisant dans des événements survenus dans sa vie personnelle l’année dernière, l’exposition est à ce jour, la plus autobiographique qu’il ait réalisée. D’un point de vue conceptuel, des enjeux et dichotomies, déjà présentes dans son travail de façon diffusé, deviennent ici plus précis. En particulier, le naturel versus le non-naturel, le synthétique versus l’organique, la mort et l’erotisme, la lumière et l’ombre, ainsi que la production des images. L’ensemble du travail présent dans l’exposition, caractérisé par la fugacité du moment photographique, est empreint d’une fragilité manifeste et volontaire. L’exposition tend à évoquer et à personnifier l’impermanence du quotidien à travers une plasticité aussi palpable que poétique.
